here is an email i received today fro CO

Dear ******,

Thank you for your letter regarding the Vespiform figure. Firstly we
would like to take this opportunity to apologise that you feel
disappointed in the way this item will be sold.

The Vespiform figure is made up of a number of pieces which are included
with figures from the Dr Who range. Each figure will come with one piece
for the Vespiform and once all the figures have been collected you will
be able to build your Vespiform figure.

It unfortunate for the collector market but its a business decision
which in the current tough climate is aimed to offer the kids and mass
market a 'value added' aspect to purchasing the figures, and that this
format is likely to be the norm for the next 12 - 18 months and possibly
into the future. It's not designed to upset the collector market who are
a smaller but no less important part of the overall picture; however
without the larger retailers the Dr Who line would not be viable. Its a
pity that there is this overlap of figures as we move into the new
retailing format but in the future as new figures arrive on the scene it
will become less of an issue.

As far as we are aware at the moment, there are no plans to release the
collect & build figures separately.

As for releases this year, there are only the exclusive figures to
Forbidden Planet. When an item is released exclusive this is an
agreement between the manufacturer and the retailer. Characters are not
releasing any other items this year into the general market.

With regards to your suggestions of more classic figures, we will pass
your comments onto the research and development team.

We hope all the above information is of some assistance to you.

Kind Regards

What a load of rubbish. A polite way of telling the collectors to get it right up 'em.

I now have seven parts of this - just the two wings, head, fluffy thing which comes with Davros and the half-section which Pyrovile has to go!

This is a fantastic figure so far - just love everything about it! It's big, detailed and looks great, and it's poseable! This figure really works well and I've not regretted getting duplicates for it so far.
I hope to get a few more parts of it soon, and finish it before the end of the month :)DT.

Do the "differences" actually add anything to the figures?

I personally think the sontarans are a lot better with their helmets and articulations, so yes in that case.
Donna, I couldn't tell anything was different.
Adipose - they're more realistic, so sort of.
River Song - can't tell as I don't have a pre-vespiform one.
Vashta - as above, but I imagine it's more realistic.
Ood Sigma - I think the belt is a lot better on it, so sort of.
Natural Ood - Definately better as a figure.

EDIT: Got the pyrovile priestess today - much better figure with the arm sculpt - the hath is the same I think though. Only 3 more pieces to go!

EDIT 2: Got the other Sontaran, differences as above - only need Davros and Supreme to go now!

You know I had a dream that they sold the Vespiform and Reverend Golightly together for £20!
As soon as everyone heard about this there was outrage on the forums and I watched on the news you were all marching throught the streets, I saw DoctorWhoDave carrying a sign saying "Vesp4Justice!" and a64 too! But alas, it was only a dream!

Edit: Just to point out as I haven't posted here before, I have this figure, it's not great personally. I can't post pictures, no camera battery atm!!

8)DT :lolDT:

Anyway, I've decided I am going to build this and I've planned how I'm going to use them and all except one will work for army builders or customs for me so I'm going to focus on building this but not until I've caught up with other figures and get the other two Time Squad packs I need.
The Eleventh Hour - 10/10; The Beast Below - 8/10; Victory of the Daleks - 5/10; Time of Angels - 10/10; Flesh and Stone - 7.5/10; The Vampires of Venice - 9/10

Guess I am still the only one to think this is stupid still. Seriously guys, why do you want things that you already have? Sure, army builders and customs, but what would you rather have, 2 Hath, or 1 Hath and a Series 4 Rose? 1 Hath and a new Martha, 3/4/5/6 Sontarans (Most people have that many anyway) or 4 Sontarans and a Jenny and Wilf?

I'd much prefer the second option. I think that another email nagging CO is required....

I don't think it's completely stupid - most are army builders and trust me, they do look good in a group, and if it means spending about £90 on a wasp (I think I've spent about £75-80 so far and I only need two more pieces) to get a nice group as well as possibly securing the line for the future, I'm prepared to do that.
TBH the wasp is so good it's worth about £30 on its own, so £60 at most really (some places have them cheap) for 2 sontarans, a hath, another ood, a load of adipose, a vashta nerada to make a group and loads of differences in the other figures is a decent deal in my books. You have said before Thay that you need half of them still, that's about £48 on figures you need, you may as well spend that much again to complete the wasp and get some decent armies.
