The Silent Stars Go By

Postby a64 » Fri Jul 13, 2012 10:09 pm

The novel that was out the end of last year. Feels odd reading a Christmas themed book in July, but...

I couldn't get into it at first - it starts off quite leisurely - but it's a very good adventure story. A nice setting, good twists...

It's got the Ice Warriors in, notably, and they're written very well - if not exactly 'modernised' or changed, but they work tremendously. And the main team are pretty good too (although I haven't seen much Matt Smith lately, my brain was reverting to Tom Baker instead in places!). Recommended!

I read that earlier this year. It is a very good story and yes it does feel old reading it when it isn't Christmas but you get used to it. I like it when Doctor Who books are more 'scary' beacause it makes it more realistic and exciting to read. I won't tell you what happens so I recommend you all to buy it and find out!

I thought this book was brilliant, and would make a wonderful Christmas special on TV actually. The Chirstmassy chapter title's were very clever indeed.

The twists were genius, and I didn't see them coming, which was great.

I managed to figure out part of the 'language decay' development, but some of them were still surprising.

And the final revelation about their true purpose there... well, that was thrilling, intelligent, and just a little bit twisted.

A great book. :)

The only thing I think is that maybe it should have been released nearer to Christmas, to coincide with it's themes. I first read it around... October? When it first came out.

Dan abnett is a really amazing writer, his Warhammer 40,000 novels are superb. Back to this novel, i loved it, the plot twists are brillant and unexpected. The Ice warriors are written extremely well. I would recommend this book to anybody

Very good, actually! Having just finished it (on a very hot day) it did feel out of place but it was still very enjoyable.

I miss Doctor Who.
