TARDIS Playset Updating

Postby Chandra » Wed Feb 11, 2009 12:58 am

Hey, this is for all those people (including me!), who need some professional help updating their Tardis'. For example I am very inspired by SizGarfin's Tardis'/Tardi ( http://www.drwhofigures.co.uk/SizGarfin ... ompare.jpg ) and I wondered if anyone knew how it was done, where to get the materials or anything more. Give us your pictures, stories or guidence if you can spare a minute. Thanks.

I think the only differences with the TARDIS in the photo are:

- meshed floor replacing the card - from some mesh-selling shop.
- wires at the top - from some wire/plastic cable shop.
- more lights.
- paper walls as normal.

The paradox machine just has red lights, a meshed cage and a few extra big fat chunky wires.

Yeah, thats it. It looks great when you do it though. BTW, the mesh you can get in Halfords for £1.49 last I checked quite a while back now.

I thought you ment the wire's in side the mesh cage

They are still big fat chunky wires. :)DT -Thay

By the way - for the dangly wires and stuff, the wires from old headphones work pretty well. I had a few pairs that either didn't work or I didn't need, so I cut the ends off, pulled the two wires apart and used them in my TARDIS. Mine could do with a bit of reorganising, but you can make them look pretty good, and it saves you spending money in a wire/plastic cable shop! :PDTDTDTDTDTDTDT

Also in mine I've got a big chunky wire from some forgotten device used to connect to the computer and charge... that looks cool around the edge. On the console itself I've got a bunch of tiny bits and bobs from dead electronics that I found, and things like tiny 'crystals' and a couple of beads that I found that look reasonably like some of the 'orbs' in the TARDIS that are kind of separate from the actual console and just sort of sit on it. (If you follow me, which you probably don't.)

I've also stuck a load of bits-and-bobs under the floor panels, some of which looks a bit rubbish, some of which looks good. I tried painting part of the 'innards' of one, 'cos I've always thought they looked kind of bland and unrealistic. With the addition of some doodahs, whatnots and knickknacks [for want of better words :PDTDTDTDTDTDTDT]it looks pretty good.
None of it's overwhelming amazing, I must add :winkDT:

And I cut out some little tiny Gallifreyan sticky-notes for the scanner, which look cool. I really should post pictures, shouldn't I? :lolDT:
I'm not dead. Honest.

That looks good! :)DT Maybe Seb should do it? Might improve some Timeslip scenes...(actually probably not - we've already had lost of big TARDIS scenes)

Wow, that's great!:O Three questions- Where did you get the mesh, how hard were the lights to rig up, and how did you make the extrapolator? Thanks.

That looks great, well done! I so have to do mine someday. But I don't know how I would light it, yours looks too light.

1. My dad ordered it as he works for a building society so he pulled a few strings. :winkDT: :Beepcute:
2. Not that hard, before I put the mesh on I spread some ordinary Christmas lights under the floor panels.
3. Just printed of this image http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/2006_x/1024/concept-extrapolator.jpg then stuck it on cardboard.
