DWFO - What do you want?

Postby Seb » Thu Apr 12, 2012 1:11 pm

Hello! Yes it's me again... The Great Disappearing Seb!

It's not that I don't want to come on the forum... Not at all... But I just never find the time! People on Twitter will know that - for the last 33 days - I've simply never had a chance to open the app and start Tweeting! I'm working full time - or actually more than full time - and am now doing well enough out of it to buy most things I need!

Does this include figures? Well probably - I still love my collection - but to be honest I started getting really fed up about forking out £100 at a time for - quite often - figures I already had, just wearing different coloured trousers perhaps. I want to be a completionist, as I think a full collection looks great, but CO and FP started to push too far - so far it pushed me away unfortunately.

And my interest in Doctor Who is also not so great, mainly down to this current era that's putting me off a lot.

Anyway..... The point is - the DWFO forum is obviously still very important to a lot of people. And that's great. And I certainly don't want to take it down or anything. But - as I'm not around that much these days - it needs a bit of a rethink. And you're the people who know best what should happen.

So I'm asking you - please - to give some thought to what you want from DWFO. Do you think someone else should be a mod? Perhaps a mod should gain admin powers? etc., etc... Let me know your thoughts in this thread, or by PM, and I'll work out a plan. I've got some ideas of my own, but I want to hear what you all think before I do anything.

Thanks for keeping DWFO alive everyone - let's keep it alive even longer!

This petition was started by me while you were away, and has eleven signatures from various members.

I also think we should have new DWFO Parliament elections. To help with the main site looking fresh and up to date, the news minister could have the powers to post directly onto the site, the customisations minister could post customs on the relevent page, maybe even a new "reviews" minister, to gather figure reviews and put them on the site.

Okeydoke... So yes, maybe we need the following:

A Poll - people can send in nominations, by PM to me, of people they would like to see become a 'Super-Mod' - having some of my permissions (banning members, changing signatures). This would not be an election however, as I would want the final say as to who should be, but the reasons people give will be an important factor in my decision.

Then a round of elections to form a new 'DWFO Parliament' - and yes, that could lead to people editing the main site too.

Any thoughts on that?

I think that, especially during times when there is no new episodes or figures, discussion tends to falter down to it's last legs. So it'd be nice if there was something to fill that gap - essentially what I was thinking when I made this topic -

http://www.drwhofigures.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4489

It'd also, perhaps, attract more people to the site, if there were more features - such as that.

(This is both an advertisement and an idea :P )

Seb, are you going to try and be on more often while the new system is set up? Once the deputy admin is appointed, they could help oversee the elections, maybe?

The Professor - what I'd like to see happen with a project like that is for members to start it off and see how it goes. Hopefully it will prove very popular, in which case then it could be more 'officially' supported - perhaps with links on the main site etc.

DS08 - I'm not sure when I'll be hear to be honest. I'd like to say I'll be on for a while now, at least to oversee these changes. It's also worth pointing out that I now host the forum myself, along with websites for many other people. Therefore any server issues will be dealt with whether I'm on the forum or not. I quite like your suggestion of the Super-Mod taking over responsibility for all issues after, say, 14 days of my inactivity.

My main job at the moment ends in June, at which point I will be setting up a new office and moving more full-time into website design, logo design consultancy, and some other areas of creativity consultancy. I plan to do the work that I can do myself - like website building and hosting - but if people want something done that I'm not so good at - logo design for example - I can connect them with the people who can help. I'll be working in an office with all my figures around me, so I will be thinking about them a lot more...!

Okay, thank you. Currently, we have got several members working quite hard on this project, so I suppose that's the first step. :)

When do you expect the deputy admin/Super-mod to be given their powers? Also, what date would the DWFO Parliament elections be? If needs be, and you get really busy, then the deputy can oversee the elections.

Seb! :D I agree with the Super-Mod idea, I'll send you my nomination soon.

I think the main thing is to get all the images back, like the ones that tell you if you have a new post in that section or not, cause I'm missing them a bit. :P

That's very true - but unfortunately it's sort of out of my control, it all rests with the original developer of the template. I'm doing what I can now to get things moving on that however.

OK, thanks. I can manage without, I mean, the forum still tells you when there's a new post anyway cause it's got the sub-forum title in a lighter colour. :)

So, when can we expect to have our new deputy admin/sueprmod/whatever you want to call them? :)

Glad to see Seb back and about. I'd personally like to see either Thay or a64 (potentially Stoo if he returns too?) given the powers, since they already control stuff fairly well.
