This figure is so hard to compare with others, as it’s so totally different in every way, so I’ll just review it based on it’s own points of merit and one or two small problems.
Overall this is incredible. The face itself is so beautifully sculpted, I’m really pleased they’ve got the ‘window’ at the top just so you can appreciate it even more! It’s really lifelike, and just as he was in the episodes.
There’s a lever at the back which when pulled back closes the mouth, and releasing it opens it. It would have been nice to have had these actions switched over, so that in a ‘neutral’ position his mouth would have been closed, but the incredible way the mouth moves makes up for this. It’s beyond me quite how they’ve got his mouth working so well, but when he opens and closes it, I’m scared at how lifelike it is!
Having this character in figure form gives us a chance to ‘explore’ him more, indeed most people didn’t know he had all the workings at the back, so this is an excellent chance to look at them a bit more. It’s here that the biggest ‘problem’ faces us, and it’s not that big to be honest. The detail here isn’t brilliant, and the paintwork doesn’t have much shading, but as I say, you can live with it.
Overall this is a magnificent figure, and the work and effort that must have gone into it more than makes up for any minor problems. Buy it now, for yourself or any Who fan. A friend of mine isn’t really into the figures, but loves the show, and I bought him this for his birthday. He was thrilled with it because it’s so unusual, so if you ever need a present for a Who fan, or for yourself, this is the one to get!
