I've had many complaints about why I have only given an 8 for posability. It's because although it has many points of articulation there are not really that many poses you can put it in! It's not COs fault - she's a giant spider, so you can't really do much with her!

Well this figure is amazing! It really captures the ambience of the Empress and can pose so very well! In fact, I really do believe that we couldn’t have a figure of the Empress with better posability.

The paintwork is also worth a mention as there’s none of the ‘one colourness’ of the Ood going on here. She’s painted gloriously in different shades, and the markings down her back and onto her abdomen are detailed superbly. The sculpting is brilliant and my hat goes off to CO with this. The detail, again, is amazing. Turn her over and the texture of her underside is made very well indeed. The torso and head are superbly detailed as well, and move excellently. The hands and claws at the end of her arms are, in actual fact, my favourite thing about this figure. No matter how you put them, they do look impressive!

Included with her is a special plastic stand, but I find it possible to make her look good without it!

There are only two points which annoy me about the Empress. Her legs are one. They are so difficult to move, or on other figures they are very brittle. An apparent fault in the manufacturing of her, it makes it very difficult to move her, and I can imagine a number of tears being shed when one of her legs breaks off for good.

The other point I am not too keen on is the weight of the abdomen. As anyone who has read my Dalek reviews will know, I like to get the correct weight of a figure, and as her abdomen is hollow, it leaves a very small weight. Of course, the rest of the figure does add to the weight helping out here, and I obviously wouldn’t want a solid rear as that would weigh it too much, but I can’t help thinking that if I had made the figure she would have had a thicker Abdomen lining.

Still, this is a lovely figure and the best we could expect (minus the two points above) from a giant spider! Doesn’t always appear in favourite figure lists, but I believe this not to be the fault of CO entirely, as I think a lot of it stems from the fact that she can’t have much posability. She is, after all, just a giant spider!
