As with other Clockwork Men

Wow. To many people, these figures are the best yet. Looking at them, you can really see why.

When you hold them in your hand, they feel absolutely perfect in weight, and beautifully textured. When you display them, they can really get across that menacing presence which was so apparent in ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’. It also passes the ‘sitting test’ by clever use of its coat as a prop.

The two different colours were also well received, and avoided being ‘just another colour to collect’ by actually being a different style of suit as well!

It is obvious that a lot of love and care has gone into this figure which also sports a removable arm weapon which can look good when put in, and the arm doesn’t look stupid without.

And then you get the big moment. Although it is done so cleverly that you wouldn’t even notice, the head is removable. Underneath the beautiful face is the clockwork brain. Sadly, this does slightly let the figure down. The plastic coating needed to house the ‘clockwork’ is huge, and this can distort the workings from the front view greatly. The only way you’ll ever see them is from the side, and these aren’t particularly detailed. Annoyingly, the clockwork part of the brain is also slightly out of scale with the whole body, but this is only so that the mask can look in scale.

The particularly unfortunate thing about all these bad points is that they are unavoidable! The sheer size of the figure means that the detail has to be small, and if the brain were in scale, the head would be wildly off. So a figure that you will probably keep as it was packaged, with the head on and gun in, but the fact that these are removable is a good thought, and this is an excellent example of what makes the Doctor Who figures so unique in their brilliance!
