“So was I” and there we go, Eccleston is gone and Tennant is here for the long game! This figure celebrates the regeneration at the end of series 1, and his first appearance in The Christmas Invasion.
Comparing the head to that of the later 10th Doctor figures, we can immediately see that this is an early sculpt. He looks rather odd to be frank, but still ok!
However, the body looks pretty good! Many people have praised this by calling it the best figure so far because it genuinely human stance, rather than the more rectangular shape of figures like Mickey and Martha. Myself, I prefer Mickey and Martha’s bodies, but that isn’t to say that I don’t see their point. I understand where they are coming from and believe that if CO could make a figure halfway between this one and Martha we would have the best one so far.
Still, that’s just food for thought! Back to the figure - and moving down the body - the legs seem just a little too far apart for my liking. It’s a minor point but I feel he looks rather unnatural.
Overall then, one major point is that all his clothes seem too big for him. Now this is good continuity, because of course he is wearing Eccleston’s outfit, but it does partly stop it from being a superb figure in its own right. You need to know that fact to appreciate it. Maybe this is one of the reasons why I am not singing its praises, indeed I’m finding it hard to quite put my finger on what it is I don’t like about it! Somehow it doesn’t seem quite right, but it’s a great figure! Not a must have, but pretty good nonetheless. It’s an example of how far CO have come - the neck looks a lot less natural than figures coming out now, and overall sadly is more of a figure that just slips into my collection unnoticed. I can’t help thinking that it deserves more than that though.
