Captain Jack has been available in a few different ways, the second being packaged with the Empty Child figure (see separate review). Sadly, there is no difference between this release and the first one - so for the die-hard figure fans that bought Captain Jack earlier, you’re now stuck with two identical Captain Jacks. This does allow for various alterations by fans, but just seems a bit annoying and unnecessary.

The figure itself is very good. It really captures his stance and persona from the Empty Child/Doctor Dances episodes - you really get that feeling of an officer during the war. It has good durability, and has a fine posability. You can make him do most basic movements, apart from sitting! This seems to be the curse of the Doctor Who figures, but Captain Jack can at least do something that looks like sitting, rather than the dismal attempts from figures like the Cybermen!

Both editions of the figure come packaged with his sonic gun, which is a good replica and fits snugly into his hand. If only more figures came packaged with accessories, as I feel one like this do not feel corny at all, and works well.

All in all, a very good figure, but I personally would have preferred him to come in his long coat attire of later episodes and Torchwood. Not only because he wears this more often, but also because then he could have sported a slightly more friendly and happy face. Wearing this outfit, his glum expression works well, but if we had him in his long coat as he wore with the Doctor, a more relaxed appearance would have been required.

Still, an essential purchase for your TARDIS allies, and if you haven’t got a copy yet, I advise you to try and get one with the empty child!
