Seb's thoughts:
Rose (series 2), as I say below, could possibly have been even better if made today. There would be articulation at the elbows, probably a slightly better face sculpt and would generally be slightly better quality.
However she was, of course, released again earlier this year along with her ice gun. The perfect opportunity to ‘regenerate’ an older figure? Yes. But they didn’t. I can’t help thinking that it would have been so much better if they had just added a bit more articulation to the arms and remoulded those hands a bit (so she could actually hold the ‘gun’ comfortably!) Such a shame this opportunity was missed.
However this figure is still actually one of the best in my opinion, comparing her to later figures like Lilith proves this. Whether we will see any more Rose figures in the future is hotly debated, could a series 4 one be in the works? This would provide us with a great opportunity to directly compare it with this figure and I think we would then be in a much stronger position to decide if this figure could be better today.
MarthaJonesFan's review:
Rose has a great likeness. She is getting rare now so if you see her and don't have her, buy her!
Series 2 Rose first came with K9 (Clean), then with Chip. Now she is part of the Tweaked Range and the Series 1, 2 & 3 Combo Wave with the Ice Gun. She has been in many boxsets. Including the Sainsbury's boxsets, Series 2 10 Figure Set and the USA 6 Figure Set.
The articulation isn't the best, but it was in Wave 3 so there was no bicep swivels or the best articulation at that time. She only has one point of articulation in each arm, and that is at the shoulders. The elbows are bent slightly, so she can never have straight arms.
So, have I persuaded you to buy her or not?
A64's pictures:
It's Rose in a Rose! Well, Rose surrounded by rose petals to be precise... I only had one layer of these, and then photoshopped the rest in to create the full flower.
I was going to do something fancy with pictures of Rose in life-supporting tanks by using shots of her in the jar like this, but in the end I left it at that - no photoshop here, just lots of reflections as you look through the container filled with water.
Same jar, though you couldn't tell, but I took lots of high-speed shots of me shaking it up. When blended togther they look like she's underwater, or a least drowning quite a few times.
I had this free program on my computer a while so I thought I'd make use of it. It's a photograph I took and then the program converts it into the mosaic, using whichever tiles you want. I used about 250 different tile designs created from screencaps of Rose, which are then matched up with the colours of the photo.
Because it took a while to get all the images, I decided to do one with the Series 1 Rose figure, since I had used shots of her in the tiles themselves!

So close - so very close! This figure comes so close to being crowned with the title of ‘best figure ever’. It’s really good, but this is just snatched away by two problem areas.
The legs to start with – they’re incredible! They are well sculpted and look real, but at the same time pack a lot of posability in them. She can sit better than almost any other figure, do the splits, anything! Her top is also very well sculpted, being just the right sort of material to look realistic. However, the other two parts of the body let this down slightly.
First, the arms. Whilst they are in a good neutral pose to start with, they have no further articulation and therefore let the side down a bit on posability. This is mainly because the arms are too thin to have articulation in, at least at the time of release, whether this figure would be better now that they could insert articulation may never be known. I should think so however, because figures such as the ‘Weeping Angels’ now have thin arms and articulation, so Rose could too (however horror stories of arms falling off the Angels make you wonder if this is a good move…)
The head is also a slight letdown - it doesn’t look all that much like Billie, especially the hair, but it’s a lot better than the series 1 figure!
Therefore there are certainly downsides to this figure, but the positive values are so huge that I just can’t bring myself to give her a bad mark! Not the best, but so close it’s definitely one to get. I can’t help feeling that if it were updated today it could really be one of the very best.
