The Torchwood team were designed to be ‘sexy’ by Russell T. Davies, and you might remember than in my review of Gwen Cooper I crowned her ‘sexiest action figure so far.’ Well if that crown hasn’t been passed on then at the very least there’s a great power struggle for it between Gwen and Tosh.
Indeed in her everso-slightly-tighter-than-necessary trademark coat, perfectly fitting trousers and faultless hairstyle, Tosh is looking her very best. The detail here exceeds many of CO’s action figures and toys, it’s those small touches that make such a difference. The buttons on her coat look good, the pockets are slightly open, and the paintwork on her trousers is superb - tiny and intricate fine lines give a much better appearance of clothes than a plain colour.
She doesn’t feel at all bulky, the correct weight in scale (an underused but important factor with figures), and the inclusion of the Torchwood plinth allows some excellent poses, perhaps firing the gun with such mind-boggling detail that ‘Torchwood’ is written down one side in absurdly small writing! Seriously!
Her neck is extremely well articulated, it’s just a smooth line across with the neck and head meeting to turn 360° (ouch!) but it doesn’t look unnatural at all. Her hair is exactly the right length to allow you to turn the head and this means you can pose her exactly firing her gun, something Gwen suffered for because of her longer hair. Her eyes are perfectly done, the only point of the whole figure that isn’t exactly right (and I’m getting very nitpicky!) is that her nose isn’t quite round enough, it points a bit more than in real life.
But when you’re getting down to how pointed her nose is you know you’ve got an excellent figure in hand. She’s possibly the best female figure from all the ranges and that really is saying something.
