Captain Jack is a true superhero for our age and this figure does him a lot of justice. This is the third Captain Jack figure so far and, for me, probably my favourite of the lot.
His legs work really well for a start, with perfectly smooth ‘ironed’ trousers giving him that impossibly tidy look that Jack always has. The shirt is also well detailed, it’s just a shame that the plastic used for the ‘body’ of the shirt, as opposed to the arms, is slightly different – more shiny and smooth – and this isn’t quite as good. I’ve only noticed that whilst writing this review so it’s only a small change, but it’s not quite right nonetheless.
The face of the CO Captain Jack was never perfect, and this one doesn’t quite do it either sadly – but for completely different reasons. When you compare John Barrowman’s face feature by feature this figure does the job best in theory. In practice it hasn’t quite come together perfectly – the eyes being the weakest area. And yet it’s unmistakably Jack, and from many angles it works perfectly with all problems forgotten. Indeed I’m being nitpicky here, trying to work out why it’s not 100% there. It’s still an excellent likeness overall and doesn’t make too much difference. The hair is definitely the best on any Jack so far though, so that’s a plus.
The gun is really excellent too, helped by the articulation of the hands placed cleverly by Jack’s watch and vortex manipulator at his wrists.
The scale is a little out on the figure, he does tower a bit over CO figures, but on his own posed this is definitely the most ‘Captain Jack’ figure for me. The first CO figure wasn’t really that good at all, the second (with coat) was, as I say in it’s respective review, more ‘action Jack’ than ‘Captain Jack’, but this one does have that certain essence of Jack he carries with him everywhere.
So this is probably the weaker of the Torchwood figures, but that’s actually a good point for the range as he’s certainly not a bad figure in himself! Certainly a must have for Torchwood and Jack fans.
