Woah. What can I say? Lisa the Cyberwoman has turned out to be the surprise best character of the Torchwood wave so far. Originally she looked to be the weakest out of Wave 1, with the others being far more obvious choices to be made into figures, but when she finally reached collectors she blew everyone away.
Originally the Cyberwoman design was one of the most bizarre and yet surreally beautiful designs in Torchwood or Who history. You can’t escape the fact that this is an upgraded human when the body is still on show. Whilst she moved like a Cyberman, she also had those human qualities and that serene facial expression that makes her so memorable.
The figure has these qualities in abundance. The main joints move in quite ‘Cybermen’ ways, she poses quite robotically and stiff, but at the same time the ball jointed neck allows you to get some real human sentiment through. Her hands especially have been posed brilliantly, looking outstretched and menacing when by her side, but turn them palm up and she can be inspecting her own human/Cyber qualities in a moving way – in short they’re the perfect shape.
The detail is truly magnificent, right down to every line, and she feels excellent to move, a quality inherited from the original Cyberman figures.
Overall she is not only my favourite Torchwood figure but one of my favourite figures so far from any series. A real surprise, but certainly a welcome one.
