This is quite a difficult figure to review because really it’s just a static object. However there is still a lot to be said about it.
My first impression was that I couldn’t believe how large it was. It’s much bigger than I imagined or how it looked on television – it looks fatter somehow. However on closer inspection of the episode I think this is indeed correct, and it does have to be big enough to fit a Dalek (it’s not actually dimensionally transcendental!)
Talking of fitting a Dalek this is obviously an important job for it to do. The first thing is that it doesn’t work as it did in the episode itself. In ‘Doomsday’, when it opened, the Daleks looked like their sucker, gun and eye was stretched and facing down. Prototype pictures show this was actually the original idea but this has now changed. Instructions on the box weren’t very good, I couldn’t work out how to use it at first, but I do now.
If anyone is still wondering you unplug the sucker, gun and eye and slot them into the appropriate holders within the Ark. This can be done with any Dalek at all and does work well.
Overall the Ark does look good – the ‘bulb’ things are in just the right place for Dalek suckers to attach themselves all around it – and I would recommend this as a variation within a Dalek collection.
A nice, unusual, addition.
