Nope. Sorry. This figure doesn’t do it for me. It’s basically a reworking of the old spacesuit Doctor, and that’s so much better.

There are a few small changes, such as the additional pocket, but the big changes are obviously the face, the colour and the helmet. The colour is, admittedly, done quite well. It looks battered and bruised and there’s a pretty good paint job on this.

The helmet, however, is terrible. I have never been able to fit it on and have now given in. My Doctor stands just holding his helmet because it simply will not fit on at all. I don’t know about others, but it is absolutely impossible for me.

The face also changed – this was one of the test figures made without the final coating of paint on the skin. Some people much prefer this one, and I can see how with the hair, but for me I do prefer the old face (the original spacesuit face, ironically, is my favourite!). This one’s forehead just looks too large. The additional irony is that the unpainted face looks almost sweatier and wet, quite appropriate being that this figure comes from the sun-drenched episode 42.

So there are a few good points to this figure, but overall it’s not a favourite of mine. If you had to choose between this and the original spacesuit Doctor I would certainly go for the original.
