Hooray! Finally those terrible disco-dancing 9th Doctors can be moved to the back of the shelves and these amazing figures can be a focal point of your collection instead.
When I heard the news that they were bringing out a better 9th Doctor figure I tried to hold back my excitement, just in case it wasn’t as good as I had always hoped. Instead it beat my expectations completely and blew me away. Not only does this figure completely wallop the disco-dancing one into the distance, it also has to be one of the best figures that CO has produced so far!
The face is spot on; they’ve really caught Christopher Eccleston to the smallest detail. I think it has to be one of the best likenesses so far, it’s incredibly realistic – I’m so pleased they didn’t just use the disco-dancing face!
The paintjob is also superb, especially on the jacket, which looks just as battered as the real one did, without looking scruffy.
There are very, very few problems with this figure. The only possible one being that it doesn’t pose quite as superbly as it maybe could – the arms sometimes look a little strange and the legs are a tiny bit too far apart, but this is nitpicking from experience, having posed him for Timeslip comics.
They did re-release this figure with some Auton accessories that are equally great. The Auton arm is a nice bit of fun and fits well around the Doctors neck, the bomb is also really detailed and the Mickey head is very well made – they haven’t just used the existing Mickey figure’s head but made a new one to reflect his old hairstyle. The attention to detail here matches that of the 9th Doctor figure itself.
I can’t really say much more, you just have to buy one and that’s all there is to it!
